Our Whenua

Whakapoungakau Lands is made up of eight aggregated blocks located on the eastern shores of Lake Rotorua at the foot of the Whakapoungakau range.

Hayden's career spans across the private sector in many industries including security, housing and health and safety. Hayden has returned home from overseas and is passionate about serving his people to ensure the ongoing wellbeing and sustainability of the iwi, hapū and whenua. 

Hayden was elected in 2025.

 Elected to the Trust in 2025, Mariana is a qualified accountant with extensive experience working on farms. Deeply committed to protecting the whenua for future generations, Mariana brings practical knowledge and a passion for ensuring our land remains a source of strength and wellbeing for our people. 

Nyreen Kiriona

Nyreen Kiriona

Nyreen Kiriona brings governance experience from her roles with Ahuwhenua Trusts, Ruamata Marae Trust, and Ngāti Tūteniu Hapū Trust. With a career in social services, she is passionate about uplifting whānau and ensuring our whenua is cared for, fostering wellbeing and sustainability for generations to come.

Nyreen Kiriona

 Tanira is a highly experienced leader in governance and has vast experience in the primary sector. Tanira is deeply committed to protecting our whenua and has been a Trustee since 2025.

Margaret Ransfield

 Margaret, elected in 2022, is a skilled and experienced operations manager with a passion for protecting our whenua and environment. She proudly serves on the Pikirangi Marae Trust and is a dedicated representative of the iwi, working tirelessly to uphold the values and aspirations of our people and future generations.

Te Kapua Hohepa-Watene

 Te Kapua, elected in 2025, has an educational background and is passionate about protecting the history and knowledge of our old people with regard to the whenua and other taonga. She is committed to ensuring trust processes are strictly adhered to in upholding the values and aspirations of our people and future generations.
